Eastern Nutrition:
The theory behind Eastern Nutrition is similar to that for Chinese Herbal Medicine. Foods are seen as having innate tastes, temperatures and functions. They are natural healing substances. The properties of foods depends on its color, shape, texture, where it’s grown, the season it grows in and the climate it grows in. Eastern Nutrition focuses on Whole foods: grains, legumes, veges, fruits, nuts and seeds, algae and minerals. Foods are seen as beneficial to an individual if they work to accentuate and balance that person’s unique body constitution and Chinese pattern diagnosis. The nature of foods can change when prepared in different ways. All foods discussed are common foods that one can find at the grocery store.
Eastern Nutrition is a fascinating and healthy way to approach how you eat. It emphasizes the use of whole organic food in its simplest form. It emphasizes simple food combining, eating according to the seasons and your conditions. It brings awareness to not only WHAT you are eating but HOW you are eating. It promotes conscious eating to eliminate dis-ease and promote health.
The Practitioners at Ocean Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine, LLC have incorporated Eastern Nutrition into their treatments. They have found that food awareness brings about quicker recoveries that are long lasting. All individuals who are in care are encouraged to keep a food journal and to attend the many complimentary nutritional workshops offered at the office. So many people have found a new awareness of healthy eating through these workshops.
Eastern Nutrition Workshops: All nutritional workshops are taught by the Acupuncturist throughout the month. All patients are encouraged to attend in order to facilitate their recovery.
Eastern Nutrition Consultations: Many take advantage of our nutritional consultations. Kimberly Manzella, C.A., MSTOM, discusses eating patterns, food likes and dislikes, the art of eating and food allergies. Together, she and the patient develop conscious eating awareness. These recommendations are individualized and are structured to provide optimal health. Progress is charted through follow up consultations in between acupuncture treatments.
